May I Tell You The Future

permission.gifAdvertising is dead! Marketing and PR … hmmm now that’s something worth talking about. The future is here! It’s a new game. A game that has a limited supply of attention. Few people play the game well. While most people are focused on getting a customer, the “new economy” thinkers are focused on getting the customer’s attention. You can tell the ones that do it right when you see it. Here’s what you see:

  1. They don’t sell, they showcase. They create opportunities for the customer to see their show.
  2. They have a show, not a sales presentation. The message or should I say “show” is informative and professional.
  3. It’s not the ready, aim, fire approach. They gain the right to communicate with permission, which gives the right to
    use frequency. The PR is well planned, frequent, and consistent.

This past week I received several marketing pieces in the mail, most from starving Realtors. Their message was not memorable. Their motive was
only to make a sale. Their approach was interruptive. They didn’t know me, they didn’t provide me value, and their “advertising” ended up in
the trash.

So what’s the future look like? It’s here! You must gain permission first, you must provide value, you must be memorable, and you will then gain
trust and loyalty. This is hard work and requires thinking. Most would rather be busy rather than productive. What about you?
